Surf for More MathLesson 2 - Translations
To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Translations, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs. GoalRecognize the image of a 2-dimensional shape after a translation. Builds UponStudent Book pages 232-235 Instructions for UseTranslations prompts students to experiment with translations, and to recognize the two-dimensional shape after a translation. To use Translations, click the "Translation" button. Click and drag the original image and watch movements of the translated shape. Move the left and right, and up and down sliders to observe the changing coordinates of the image.
TransmoGrapher 2 lets students practice skills at translation and plot basic shapes on the Cartesian coordinate system. To use TransmoGrapher 2, input the number of units in the text box to translate on the X-axis and on the Y-axis. Click the "Translate" button. Notice when a translation is redrawn in its new position and orientation, a 'ghost' polygon is drawn in grey in the previous position. To create a new polygon, input the number of vertices for the new polygon in the text box "How many vertices?", and click the "Go" button. Enter the coordinates for X and Y. Click the "Finished" button. The new polygon will be drawn on the coordinate plane. |
