Lesson 6 - Using Counters to Subtract Integers

Instructions for Use

Subtracting Negative and Positive Integers gives students practice subtracting positive and negative numbers.

To use Subtracting Negative and Positive Integers, click the "Start Subtraction" button. Input the numbers in the text box and click the "check" button to see if the answer is correct.

 

 

Subtracting Integers lets students practice subtracting integers using different strategies.

To use Subtracting Integers, read the explanation for subtracting integers and study the models. Using the subtracting integers applets, practice subtracting integers. Click the "Begin!" button and enter the answer in the text box. Press the "Enter" key to move on to the next question. When all 10 questions have are answered, your score and time will appear.

To use interactive calculator to subtract integers, click the "+/-" button to after you enter a number to change the sign to negative. Click the "-" button before you enter the next number in the equation. Click the "=" button to complete the equation. For example, to calculate the sum of (+23) - (-12) - (+16), enter the first number in the equation, 23, and click the "-" button. Enter the second number, 12, and then click the "+/-" button to change the sign to negative. Click the "-" button and enter the third number, 16. Click the "=" button to complete the calculation.
