Surf for More MathLesson 2 - Applying Pattern Rules
Use the following interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning how to apply pattern rules. Students can do these activities on their own or in pairs. GoalRecognize patterns and use rules to extend and create the patterns. Builds UponStudent Book pages 124-127 Instructions for UseFibonacci Interactive Applet lets students extend the Fibonacci number sequence. To use Fibonacci Interactive Applet, click on the '>' button to increase the values and the '<' button to decrease the values. Note the addition of a row each time the '>' button is clicked. Challenge students to find the rule for the equation at the top of the screen. Note how the equation changes as each new row is added.
Pattern Numbers lets students recognize patterns and extend the number sequence. To use Pattern Numbers, look at the number sequence and complete the pattern by inputting the correct values in the text boxes. Click the "Check Answer" button to see if the sequence is correct. Click the "New Problem" button to try a new number sequence.
Learning About Number Relationships allows students to create and extend number patterns. To use Learning About Number Relationships, think of a number pattern, such as add 5 each time. Input the first number of the pattern by clicking that number on the interactive calculator. Enter the pattern into the calculator, such as 5 + 5 =, =, =, =. . . See how the pattern appears on the hundreds chart. Try the same process with other number patterns. Predict what numbers will occur in the sequence. |
